EXPERIENCIA ARTÍSTICA

*1978/79

UPDATED BIOGRAPHY OF L. MELGAREJO

Miguel Angel Lopez Melgarejo (Lakel) was born in Ubeda, province of Jaen (Spain) , on January 5th, 1960. Son of Sebastian Lopez del Moral and of Margarita Melgarejo Navarrete. He is the oldest of three bothers and one sister.
He starts his studies in the Carmelite Sisters School, continuing them in the Salesian School of Santo Domingo Savio of Ubeda.
He continues his studies in the San Juan de la Cruz College, and in the Applied Arts and Artistic Trades College, with the professor Baltasar Raya, that became Head of Department of Drawing.
EXPERIENCE IN ARTS
*1978/79
Son of the famous and reputed imaginary sculptor Sebastian Lopez del Moral (disciple of Francisco Palma Burgos), he takes his first steps in the techniques of drawing, sculpture and painting.
He participates in several drawing competitions, winning three first prizes and one consolation prize.

*1980/86
He starts to work more eagerly in painting. During a short stay in Cordoba, he does oil painting, inspired by Jesus Notario, who is one of the persons who initiated him in this technique.
He wins, consecutively, a first and second prize.
He is the author of three original theatre scripts: “El último amanecer sobre Pompeya (1975), based on the famous novel by Sir Bulwer Litton “The Last Days of Pompey”; “Evangelio” (1980), and “Akelarre, el prado del cabrón” (1983, third prize for beginning authors).
He collaborates as a draughtsman and in the Art Criticism section of the monthly magazine “El eco callejero”; he does several exhibitions of “figurative realistic” style and wins several prizes (Cordoba), being mentioned in regional newspapers, where they speak of him as a “promise of the Arts”.
His father dies at the age of 47, when he is 22 years old.
He is initiated in the Sacred Mysteries, with specialization in Operative Mysticism, in the year 1983 (Alicante).
He travels to Malaga to paint several assignments of mural fresco paintings of big dimensions. There he gets to know the surrealist painter John Gibbon, with whom he works for during nearly one year, and who initiates him in several vanguardist techniques (palette knife, mixed technique, impressionism…)
He takes part as an actor in the short film “Apócrifo 69”, and in the controversial play “Oh, Calcutta!” of the Independent Experimental Theatre Company of Malaga (1985).
During this same period of time, he is granted a scholarship to take part in a course in the Italian city of Florence. During his stay in Italy, he learns the “medieval iconographic” technique, and also art work with gems and precious metals.
In 1986 he moves to Valencia and marries his second wife, Francisca, with whom he has a son and a daughter: Deneb and Samahel, respectively. There he alternates his work as a painter and draftsman with his night job in a home for the elderly.

*1986/94
The years from 1983 to 1987 are united in his life by mystical-spiritual experiences that will have a great influence in his paintings.
He is the author of the book entitled “A.D.A.M.A”, that had an international success (four editions sold in Spain and Latin America and two other editions entitled “Diario A.D.A.M.A.”)
In 1994 he divorces and moves to Mallorca, where the light and the colours of these islands captivate him and he initiates a new stage in his life.
He gets to know his third spouse, Amelia, with whom he has a son, Umiel. He alternates his work as a painter with classes of figurative art in his atelier and with his aspect of a “communicator”, writing several books, giving lectures, courses and talks, and taking part in international symposiums about Humanism and Metaphysics, both in Spain and abroad, in Latin America. He is the creator of a Range of High Angelic Perfumes, and he donates the receipts exclusively for sale and trading of the products to the company Divino Sabat, a cutting-edge enterprise in the global esoteric industry for over 20 years.
Totally devoted to his artistic work, he separates from his third spouse and searches without end for what he calls the “Muse of Onyx.” From there on, he isolates from the world in many trips to the Amalfi Coast, and to the Bay of Naples (Italy), where he has his “second home” of emotional escape.
He currently lives in Madrid (Spain) and works in his private Art Atelier.»
Nowadays, he lives travelling to many parts of the world, searching for spots where Art and Culture inspire his bohemian personality, observing life with ironic passiveness and with the mysterious eyes of the soul, expressing himself specially through the silence of his paintings; a respectful and conclusive art that is also irreverent, transgressive and controversial; a result of his unavoidable elevation to the skies and descent to the hells of the mind. Currently, he has totally moved away from contests, prizes, nominations, acknowledgments, artistic honours, and press and television.
He is one of the very few artists who uses skilfully the technique of “drawing in one stroke”, for which he is renowned worldwide (see sample videos in YouTube).
The major part of his production forms part of private collections in Andalusia, Valencia, Catalonia, Murcia, Madrid, Balearic Islands, Argentina,  Italy, Greece, Russia, USA, Turkey… or is in museums, such as in Castile-Leon.

COLLABORATIONS AND QUOTES
In his youth, he took part in several Theatre Companies, such as “Afersa” (Jaen), “T.E.I.” (Malaga) and “Gent Jove” (Valencia).
He has collaborated or appeared in different publications (“Dunia”, “Más Allá”, “The One”, “Belart”, “Año Cero”, » Plural», «Caça Mallorca»…), Art guides and catalogues (“Plecs d´art”, “Almeriarte” , «RevistArt» …), news bulletins (“El eco callejero”, “Fui”, “Metanoia”, «CEA»…), and also different television and radio programmes (Canal 9, RTVE 1st and 2nd channels, Antena 3, Tele 5… and other cable and autonomic channels), in which he has presented his work as an artist and a humanist.
He has been quoted in different press publications, magazines, books, etc… such as the programme “La noche temática” of the Spanish National Television, and in “Ocurrió así” of Miami (USA).
He is the author of several books such as: “Diario A.D.A.M.A.” (translated into English, please visit http://ellibrodesamahel.info/), “Huestes de los 4 Ángeles Guardianes”, “Tarot de los Antiguos”, “Crónicas de los Sin Nombre”, “Vivlio ton psychón”, “Daimon: el Libro de los Nombres”, “Temple Guardian Energia”, or the curious booklet “. (The Carrier of the Green Light)”, amongst others.
He has written the preface and presented books such as “El Libro de Samahel” (FUI Publishers) or “Ponte las alas”, from Ana Maria Aroha (EMT Publishers), designing the covers for “El eco callejero” (monthly magazine) or “A la sombra del olivo”, from Francisco J. Ortega (Endrokos Publishers); and illustrating books such as “Cábalas con la guitarra”, from Gabriel Rosales (SGAE), or novels like “Buba, te estoy esperando” by Xesca Domenech (MF Publishers) or «Los mundos de Nerba» by Marisol Moreno Serrano (Mallorca Fantástica).
He is also the author of the covers of music records such as “Con 12 semillas”, from the singer-song writer Teresa Fernandez, or “Camino”, from the composer Miguel Angel Tornos. Also, he is the creator of the commercial design of several perfume and gift products, as well as of jewellery and imitation jewellery.
He has collaborated, donating his work and his paintings (both drawings and oil paintings) or the price of these, to the Spanish Association of Neurophibromatosis, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, the Centre of Angelic Studies, Iacta, Aura Solidaria (that helps the people in need in the Balearic Islands), Vuit Vents (home for disabled children) and amongst others, to the World Heritage Centre (that belongs to UNESCO).
